Yesterday I took advantage of the nice weather and got outside. I took the two Conrail Era Signal Boxes out with me and set up an area to paint them. I know most are against using spray paint but since I don't have an airbrush to do so, I did what I could with what I had. I used grey primer paint to get the look and feel of the color I was going for.
I think they turned out pretty good in my opinion and the details on these 3D models are amazing. I am thinking of purchasing a 3D printer and starting to 3D print my own models especially railroad freight cars. If everything works out and I am able to purchase one, I have plenty of freight trucks and freight wheels to give me a decent size fleet of freight cars. It's amazing what you accumulate over the years.
Now I just need to paint up some polystyrene Conrail Blue, get those numbered, cut out and then glued onto the boxes.
Next we have a small project I decided to start at 11:30 last night after looking at more of Conrail's MOW equipment. I forgot to take a before picture of the boxcar before I made the cut but here we go. I found this boxcar last night since I want to build up my MOW fleet that way it is out of the way and that is one less thing to worry about. There may be a few slight differences between the real deal and the model but I am working with what I have.
Here we have the door in place before being glued. When I was cutting the door frame out I didn't take notice until after I had cut the door frame that I went a little to far with the cutting wheel. After I seen what I did, I had to pull out the joint compound and fill in the gaps that I made. It was a real simple fix and I was going to paint it today but mother nature had other plans. I guess we needed some more rain even though we have gotten a lot of it lately.
Here it is altogether after I fixed my little mistake. I think it looks pretty good and you can't even tell where the mistakes were made. Ah well, we all live and learn but that's the joys of this hobby.
Picture below is what I am going for or trying to at least.
