Well - i finally took the "Before" pics:
I'm going to take one of these 2 gons....
and cut the middle sections out to make 2 separate single truck cars that look kind of like this:
The idea being to make the cars short enough to be useable on the tight radius (4 ft diameter) curves of my layout and also to use them in the new Mine diorama underneath the layout:

The Challenge:
~ Cut 2 straight lines through the gons and not "mess it up". Basically, I'm Lopping off the 2 ends.
~ Alter the trucks to accept another coupler on the "inside end" that usually does not get a coupler
~ Make another "gondola end for that same end that was cut in the first line (see Mess it up)
~ Prime and paint and letter to MFW RR specs Circa Steam/Diesel era
~ Paint in colors usually seen in a mine (Greens and grays) detail with lots of coal dust

This is gonna be interesting! Anyone remember those "piker" passenger cars in HO? Those ultra short characatures that rode on one truck? I think you have a G-scale one on the end of your train!

Nothing like chopping something up to get the frustrations out!
I'm thinking of all you guys up in the northeast, with all the snow. Stay warm!
And keep your chin up, global warming will have it all thawed out

I'm getting to the point where chopping model railroad equipment is like a second hobby.
Cool project Mikey!
