Desktop 3D printers
AF350 Wrote:Kent those are some nice buildings are they HO? ....Anyway back to 3D printing I found out that the Makerbot 3D scanner is being offered at $1400.00 which is out of my budget at this time maybe in a year or two I can get one.

Yes, they are HO scale. I have printed a few things in O scale, barrels, concrete blocks, and a visible gas pump. In N, there is not much I can do with my printer, but I have printed a small building as a test.

As far as the scanner being offered, the reviews I have heard were not good, at least when it comes to scanning items for our use. The resolution is just no where near what we need. Give it a few years.

The printer I have, an Afinia, $1600, is not good for small details. For small details I use shapeways, but on the larger items, like structures, shapeways it too expensive for me, so I bought a the Afinia, and it has printed better than I expected.

here is another item I printed, and hanger based on ones at the Springfield, MO downtown airport. As I recall, is printed in nine pieces to get the layering running in the right direction.
