Our water bill has gone up considerably in the last few years. The city wanted a 19% increase. Everyone screamed so they found a way. Raise it 9% one year and 9% the next year. Net increase = 18.81%.
The local power company wanted to tack on a surcharge on our bill so they could think about building a nuclear plant. They were not committed to it, just wanted to think about it. And the surcharge would not be refunded if the decision was to not build one. Fortunately the state commission said no to that.
