Andy, the story starts with the MD15AC in the standard MILW paint scheme

SOO painted a black "mask" over the MILW road name and road number and added their numbers

That is the origin of the nickname "bandits" due to the black mask.

I have no idea why but the SOO shops must have used black paint of the lowest possible quality and the bandits started to look like this one

Some of this poor creatures ended at the WSOR and got another black mask at the cab sides to carry the WSOR road name and number
