For us serious procrastinators at what time on Labor Day does the contest end? And if we start less than 24 hours from the deadline and still get done on time do we get extra kudo's, brownie points or whatever?

You get all that and more, just for saying you'll do something.... anytime, early or late, it doesn't matter. I suppose if you get the job done in 24 hours, we might have a gold star to put on you certificate. As for the time, it's usually after I've had my second cup of morning coffee, but in this case since we're only giving you three months to get the project done, I will consider adding a few hours and making the deadline at midnight, GMT on September 1st. I think that equates to around 8 PM EST, or 5 PM Arizona time (except for the Navaho Territory, which remains on MST, even in the summer).
