The graphite may cause a grinding sound in the gears and/or it is not lubricating them so you are getting gear chatter. I use a light grease -- I think it is a white lithium, but I am not sure. The tube is at the club at the moment. I would suggest disassembling the trucks and cleaning out he graphite before adding grease.
