Welp, the closest I can get to a full recovery on this issue is a backup I found from when we first migrated to the new server. which was back in July of last year. Yikes. not perfect but at least it's something. otherwise, we would have lost a lot more photos. It was a directory, like EZ said, that was over 22,000 files at a total of 2.5gb of stuff.
The only thing I can suggest at this time is for those who know they have photos that don't show up to re upload them. Hopefully you guys still have them stored locally.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank PHPBB open source for their contribution to this whole debockle, and in the MYSQL and the SQL server contribution to reducing my life by six days and burning away the last square inch of stomach lining I might have still had before Friday.
