There appears to be some confusion here: I'm almost certain that the Colonel Sanders mentioned by Michael was not Harland Sanders, whose title was an honourary one, but Colonel Beauregard Sanders, a little-known participant in the Civil War, and inventor of the locomotive sander. (see below)

His grand-nephew was the better-known Harland, originator of the "seven secret herbs and spices", with which he "sanded" all that dismembered poultry.
