Great suggestion, Jim.  After looking at the prototype photos, those gussets aren't even there, so you're right, I can cut the bottoms off of them.

I'm getting ready for decals, but figured I would paint the decking and pilots to match the prototype (black), and while I was at it I dry brushed some black on the fan louvers, air intakes and exhaust.  I'll have to retouch the paint later, and still need to paint the corner railings white.
