My SD40-2 build threw a blanket over scenicking Hazleton, but I decided to get the brushes and paints out tonight to establish potential areas for exposed rock. The baseline is a uniform gray with some light and darker highlights. I just get four colors out for this on my paint palette - white, black, dark brown and ivory. I get my brush into one color and blend on the palette and then work an area until most of the paint's gone, pick up some of another color, blend on the same area of the palette and continue until I'm satisfied. For now, this is all rough draft territory - I can always add to it later with more paint. I'll cover a lot of these "rock" areas with a variety of scenic materials, but just by painting where the rocks would be gives you a place to anchor your thoughts on what'll go where.... I still have some areas to work on in the right corner, but I'll wait until everything's dry before getting back there.
