At his first job, he was given the training of the junior football team. He ran them through the basic drills and such, but there were no other junior teams in the county to play. At the end of the year they played the senior team and beat them.
When he moved to the big city a dozen years later, he put a throwaway line in his qualifications "coached an undefeated football team". (Dad was very precise). When he retired, the local paper put in big type "Coached a championship football team".
