Tom,
It will be tough for your daughter, & SIL, for about a week. The first 3 days are the hardest. But it's amazing how quickly the body repairs after this surgery. Things get better quickly. With my wife, we were up 3 times a night for meds or pee breaks. Apart from discomfort, the challenge was to keep track of the time intervals between pain meds, and stagger them. We used 3 types, each with its own distinct schedule. Every 3 hours, every 4 hours, three times a day, etc.
BTW be careful with the oxy. To knock down the discomfort, around day 3, my wife tried once with two pills. Instead, she fell asleep while swallowing her coffee, right in her mouth. The coughing woke her up.
But the big picture is that this surgery is remarkable and makes possible walking without pain.
It's all good. Thank God for modern medicine, and modern pain relievers.
Wishing your daughter the best in her recovery.
