A little update, while I have not had to hire an attorney I have made it known that I will not hesitate to do so. The first adjuster that was assigned the claim said that he knew model rail roading and that everything I had that was damaged was worth $100 total. That guy, quite literally, got thrown out of my home and fired. He was rude, sarcastic, condescending and he seemed to know everything about everything. He was cursing up a storm in front of my kids (even after I asked him to stop), and it was not during an arguement. That is when I physically removed him from the house. Once I contacted his boss and told him how the adjuster had treated me and my wife, they canned him. I hate to see someone lose their job in this economy, but he was begging for it.
The new adjuster is more liberal. The only thing he needs to know about the RR items is a verifiable replacement value, or residual value for the items that can't be replaced. The only contention we have to deal with is settling on a figure for garment restoration, and either cleaning or replacing 4 items of luggage.
Fortunately I was able to get alot of pics before the flood restoration crew got here, otherwise I would have been screwed. I even have pics of one of the restoration guys throwing away the basin for my turntable kit.
A word of advice, if anyone - God Forbid- should have to go through this, get pictures and watch the workers that come in. I have a P2K 0-8-0, which was not touched by the water. It was in the box, on a shelf several feet above the water. I caught one of the cleaners opening the box for it, with his wet, dirty gloves on. That got ugly.
