I have several N scale Tsunami decoder equiped locos. Until I got a capacitor installed they did not perform too well.
I now use surface mount caps if space is a problem. I use 2 or 3 100 uf wired in parellel. This sure helped my locos.
Most of the time the loco will just be dead, I have never ran into one that would shut down then come back to life without sound.
