I like the blue foam you use in the US so often on top of the bench work. It makes it so easy to have some very flexible elevation. Building a small underpass is done in three minutes with a sharp knife. I like it how you use the foam to have some interesting elevations on the layout.
May be I do the bench work of my next layout 2-3" lower and put blue foam on top. I will have to learn how to fasten flexible track temporary for test drive on the foam until glue and ballast will be done some weeks later. And I have to learn how to mount the switch machines and have easy access for service within the foam mountains. But that will be the next layout...
