Saving stuff

I can relate -- I've saved bits of wood (that can be made into fences or signs), foam for scenery, extra track -- and almost all of it is useful at some point.
I've got 3 small layouts, all in various stages of completion (all are operational), so I've had many left over items to recycle / re-use.

I still try to draw the line somewhere & end up having to trash some odds and ends. But, as you say, you're more likely to need it in the future.

Good suggestion re the old medicine bottles.
