The closest railroad artifact to my house (that I know of)(not on my property) is a tower for the overhead electric of the old North Shore Line, 7 miles away
The closest railroad to my house is the Canadian National ( Wisconsin Central/Milwaukee road/Soo Line ), about 1500 feet from my home.
The closest freight railroad Same as above.
Closest Passenger rail: Amtrak, through Rondout, Il. 6 miles away.
Closest Light Rail: the CTA, Chicago 30 miles away
The closest static railroad display to my house is the old Mundelein station, about 2 miles away.
The closest steam locomotive to my house is in Wood Dale, Il. 16 miles away.
The closest operable (non miniature) steam locomotive to my house is at the Illinois Railway Museum, 27 miles away.
