I think that Bruce is right: the rules are what keeps this thread moving in related but sometimes unexpected ways. It also encourages potential posters to learn a little about that which they're thinking of posting - if I have a picture of a diesel, but I'm not sure if it's the same model as the one onto which I wish to add, all I have to do is google its roadname and number.
If I'm not mistaken, Charlie, you're the inventor of this game (back at that other place) and, ultimately, it's your call on whether or not it continues as intended. However, the rules, which aren't that difficult, are what makes this thread unique - to "dumb them down", in my opinion, would be a mistake. Sometimes, when I don't have a photo that I can legitimately squeeze in, I just sit back and watch in awe as you more knowledgeable (and more prolific) rail photographers strut your stuff. The depth of your collections and your knowledge about them always leaves me amazed.
I do like that photo of the FPA-4, though - it's my absolute favourite passenger diesel.
