GEC's Layout Progress

Absolutely. They are so cheap on some sites, that i'm considering buying another pair. I'll probably go for some Penn Central units and patch them.

Ralph Wrote:Wow! Great photos! You had a nifty display there! Did you get a lot of questions or comments?

Thanks! Yeah, I did actually. I was the only "Young" guy there, and some of them apparently saw me as the new face of the hobby, lol.

The top comments i got were:

"Its good to see young people in the hobby"
"I wish they made an E44 in plastic"
"Are those E33s brass too?" (they're bachmann spectrum, lol).

There were alot of people coming in and snapping photos and more than a few people came and talked to me. Thats how i eventually met with Andy Rubbo, because people told him I had an electric display going.

I have some older pictures, but the layout has since become a mess, we're doing the final work over because show season starts soon, and everything needs to be working (clean track, finished projects where possible, working trains) by the weekend after thanksgiving. There is a good chance i'll put a video together of the club then. In fact, i think i made a video for them last year, but only posted it on facebook for the club's facebook group page. I'll try to dig it out and post it on Youtube.

Your E44 units look awesome on Rubbo's Module.. Did you meet up with Andy Rubbo ?

Thanks! Yeah, i did. I hope i didn't seem to crazy, i was kind of excited. He definitely gave me some useful tips, as far as the catenary and tinkering with electric models go. He was there only for a short time. He set up for an hour, than packed up and left. Very interesting people, and his module attracted even more of the "E&T" people, so there was a lot of stories and things to learn in that respect.

It would be awesome if we could get more juice in next year. I'm thinking of making a module myself, but with Reading Catenary, just to mix things up a little.

SurlyKnuckle Wrote:Those Juice Jacks are sweet! I was never a big NEC fan, until I started working on a portion of the line. It's really fascinating. One of the old head engineer's I work with used to run on the NEC back in the PC and Conrail days, and I've gotated him into telling stories about GG-1s and E44s on occasion, lol!

Again, exellent work. The signal bridge on your freind's module is impressive, particularly the cage around the lower signal. Just like the real deal. Thumbsup

Yeah, its interesting stuff. Even though its all still a railroad, electric operations have their own flavor to it and you don't get the same feel from straight diesels (at least in my opinion).

Andy Rubbo's work is incredible. The tower is actually lit with a lit display board (but i couldn't get a good photo). all the signals supposedly worked as well, but he didn't run anything on it (my models sat without power). And of course, it all works, even the wire.
