The G-series is Canon's advanced point-n-shoot (advanced in that I believe it is the only one of their series that can be completely controlled manually). I had the Canon G2, then G5. I beleive the series is up to the G-10 or -11. I now have a Nikon D90 DSLR, but the G-5 is/was great for model work since you could put it right on/into the layout for perspective you did not get from the aisle.
