Thanks Reinhard,

I begin weathering by painting the trucks and fuel tank with Humbrol enamel Matt Dark Earth (no29) diluted 50% with white spirit ( a paint thinner/ brush cleaner)

The paint is wiped off immediately using a clean cotton cloth (old T-shirt) leaving a residue of paint in all the crevices. I then apply Tamiya Weathering Master weathering powders

which are similar to chalk pastels but more greasy and seem to adhere better than chalk. This is applied to the upper part of the loco along with Humbrol Matt Light Grey (no64) which is dry brushed

to highlight loco details, hatch covers etc
