Sailormatlac 2012 Resolution Challenge
#67
It's been a while since I updated this thread. In fact, as I dreaded, many things came up in the last month, work, freight cars and... most ideas of my challenge layout ended up on the club layout (if you've followed other threads, it is the so-called Lairet Sub). In a sense it's great because the experiments I freely conducted with the layout paid off. However, I don't feel like duplicating scenes on two different layouts.

Also, as youve all seen, I've been under the good old Doc's influence and started a major freight car overhaul projects. This means the challenge layout is actually loaded with cars in different completion stage. This gave me an idea: to built a car shop with trackage where I could store and shot overhauled cars and do some little switching moves. The locale would stay the same as QRL&PCo Shops were located east of Industrial Avenue and connected the mainline as depicted on my previous layout idea. Several years ago, I built a large reproduction of QRL&PCo shops with DPM parts. Half of it was reconverted, but I still have the car shop. I think I'll go this way. However, I must admit I won't go very far until the challenge deadline (work load increase before my leave in Europe will give me little time). I'll probably try to lay few track, reusing old salvaged code 83 turnouts for this purpose.

For those who loved Legrade, don't be sad, I'm working to implement it on the club layout where it will be built full scale! ;-)
