Well... if you get "tired" of the sound and just want some quiet time in the layout room you can always hit the mute function and turn off the sound for your sound decoder.
I've used the mute function several times, because sometimes, I just want to watch the train run and listen to the soft hum of the mechanicals inside. It also alerts me to any funny noises that I wouldn't hear otherwise with the sound on all the time.
