A Quick Visit to the NC Transportation Museum
#1
We stopped by the NC Transportation Museum yesterday for a very quick visit enroute to an appointment in a neighboring town, and took their 25 minute train ride in the cab of this Southern GP30. For only $10 per person (limit 4), this was a lot of fun for the kids and I. After the train ride, we made a quick stop in the gift shop, then off to another errand in a town close by.

If you find yourself in or around North Carolina, and can plan the time to visit the town of Spencer and the Transportation Museum, it's well worth the effort. Check our the website for more details...but there's train rides, a nice gift shop, the working round table, and numerous engines in various states of reclamation and refurbishment. The actual museum is interesting as well. Plan on taking three to four hours to see the whole thing and take the train ride.

Also, right across the street, there's a great train store...The Little Choo Choo...with an impressive selection of train hobby needs covering all scales. (See their website as well.)

You can't go wrong visiting the Museum and train store...it's inexpensive, very "hands on", and perfect for a summertime trip.
