Photo tour of a Norwegian narrow gauge museum railway

Just wanted to share some pics from a trip to Sørumsand and the Tertitten museum railway today.

Sørumsand station, this building is a reconstruction of Bjørkelangen station as it was in 1896:


At Sørumsand there is a crane dating back to 1919 but now fully restaured. This was used for transloading freight in wooden containers from narrow gauge cars onto normal gauge cars, and was the first crane of this type in Norway. To the left is the engine house:

Just outside Sørumsand station, the museum line crosses under the NSB main line:


The train arrives at Fossum station:




This narrow gauge railway was originally 57 km long, but now there is only a few km of track left, and Fossum is the end of the line.


The coaches are uncoupled from the engine, and end markers are put in place before the engine runs around and couples to the other end of the train:

The conductor walks in front of the engine to make sure no kids (or adults) get in the way during the runaround:


All passengers are aboard, and the train is ready to depart back to Sørumsand:


After the train has left, Fossum station is once again an empty and quiet place in the middle of nowhere:
