A weekend trip to a MR show in Bergen
#1
This weekend my girlfriend Vigdis and I went on a trip to the city of Bergen on the west coast of Norway, to visit the annual model railroad show. While we were there, we also took a ride on the Fløibanen Funicular. It's just a short ride to the top of Fløyen Mountain, and offers a spectacular view over the city.

Bergen is known as the "Rain City" here in Norway; it rains 242 days a year, with an annual precipitation measuring 2.250mm (89in) on average! However, on Saturday the weather was splendid, as you can see:

On the roof of the top station there is a cool model of the funicular, which displays the actual movements of the cars:

Early Monday morning we headed back east over the mountains. The weather forecast had predicted snow in the mountains a week earlier, so we changed to snow tires before we left home on Friday. However, there were many people on vacation that had ignored the forecast, and we heard on the news that hundreds of cars were stranded in the mountains or had slid off the roads trying to drive home on summer tires. This happens every year without exception, I wonder why some folks never learn..!
