Just to show that I'm walking the talk here, I'm about half done with a background model of one end of the Pabco Paper plant in Vernon that I showed above:
Here it is more clearly, with a Walthers N water tank that will go in the gap in the center:
This is meant to be a reduced-scale, low relief background model. I built it on a basic foamcore shape, attaching mainly Plastruct corrugated and brick siding with HO and N Tichy and Grandt Line windows.
If I get more info on Malabar in the 1950s, I'm not ruling out an extension of my current layout onto a more complete Malabar style yard, with a larger and better model of Pabco Paper. Building this model has been very helpful in making me understand the whole building and its actual dimensions.
