thank you very much Mister Nutbar. i really like your photo as well. i might have a photo somewhere here of that same locomotive.

Charlie why/when did they take the other tunnel out of service?

Todd
Todd, they took the tunnel out of service when they widened the other one for the second track. that was when they made the track to accommodate the double stacks, and I am guessing around 1995, I'm sure someone knows for sure and will post. I heard, and it could be true, that the track was left in place through the other tunnel so it could be opened in a hurry if it was needed. It doesn't have clearance for double stacks. It was cheaper to increase the width and height on just the one tunnel.
Charlie
thanks for the info. on the tunnel Charlie. Bill and i were talking about it the other day and couldnt remember what the story was with it.

Todd
You are right Charlie. Im not sure if they left the track in there or not. If I remember correctly they also lowered the grade through there. That is a great picture. I can remember when the tunnels looked liked that. I was only in fifth grade when they did that to the tunnel.

Was fortunate this afternoon to catch another loaded West bound coal train a Salina,Pa. comeing from Avonmore,Pa. on the Conemaugh line . Today was not the greatest day to get photos of trains. It was in the mid 30's all day and has been raining all day as well but ill take what i can get . This is one of my favorite spots to take photos and rail fan . However traffic is very sparatic at times.
