At one time the Southern RR of NJ used a caboose to head the train into Pleasantville, a crewman would ride the caboose and whistle the crossings. Here the caboose sits on the connector track to the NJ Transit Atlantic City Line in Winslow, NJ April 1997.
Westbound at East Palestine, 2 years ago. The building to the left was Adamson Tank Co. They made steel tanks of all sizes. They closed in the seventies. Another company made windows there for a while but they too couldn't make it work. We lived less than a block from the plant in the 50's and actually got used to the trains and the men beating on the tanks 24/7. I think they were probably getting the slag off from the welds.

Rebuilding the tourist open air car 5/9/2001. Kiski Junction. Folks would freeze to ride out here rather than be inside. One of my volunteers told me that we wouldn't have anyone riding it when we got the coach. He was so wrong. We couldn't get folks inside even if it was storming.
