That shot brings the whole thing in a different light, glad you we able to find the location.
BTW, good to see you again, it's been too long, I hope you're back into MRR again, but regardless, it's always good to see you.

So they took the obvious shortcut, as I did many times when I was a kid.

That is a lengthy bridge. Not to encourage walking on RR trestles but I image most folks would think a short one would be worth the risk...but this one must have taken some time to get across...way too much time for the possibility of a train!

Just a guess, but that percussive air blast in the cab at the beginning of the video was likely the Engineer putting the train "in the Big Hole" - Emergency. Trains do take a while to stop, especially if heavily loaded - 100 cars of coal grosses-out (the weight you have to stop) at ~ 13,000 TONS (26,000,000 pounds !)...ask Sir Isaac Newton about mass & Inertia.

Yes,that escaping air sound was the engineer applying a EA of the brakes after that you're along for the ride as your train stops and it will be awhile before that 13,000 tons stops.

You make your choice and you take your chances. They're lucky they weren't jailed for trespass and endangering the crew and equipment.
