I bought these two hopper cars yesterday at a local hobby shop. I only paid $5 each for them. I just happened to stumble upon this hobby shop by accident and their prices are actually pretty good. They have a lot of HO Scale stuff there. I will be going back there more often. Only thing is that they are only open Tuesday's Thursday's and Saturday's. They both have the same number but that will eventually change over time.

Those look like Athearn cars, and you payed roughly what it cost me about 30 years ago. I have a couple dozen of them, but most of mine were bought as undecorated kits...

I'm going to try to convince the fiance to take me down tomorrow to the hobby shop. I do need to get model glue as I'm waiting for my brother to finish cutting up the pieces to my dump truck loading ramp. I will then purchase a few more cars and probably a couple locomotives. This hobby shop has a ton of B&O engines and I'm looking for a RF16 set. I also seen a PRR SD9 for only $35 and it is powered. You can't beat that price right there. The hobby shop is T&P Collectibles and they have more HO Scale stuff than any other scale.

From what I see on eBay $8 for Athearn blue box kits is a good price. Depending on how rare a kit is I have seen prices range from $5 to $30. If the kit is built with no upgrades prices start at $10. If the car has Kadee couplers and metal wheels prices can go as high as $40 to $50.
As for the RF16 set I too have been going after both B&O and PRR sets. The Bachmann locos run for about $100 to $150 each for the A unit and B unit. They are DCC/DC dual mode and sometimes have sound. The other option is E-R Models. I picked up an A unit in Baldwin Demonstrator scheme for $50. The B&O and PRR run about the same $50 to $75 for each unit. They are DC with hook and horn couplers. I am trying to figure out how to change them over to Kadee. It doesn't look simple.

Both locomotives are powered. I am going to check back on tuesday as they get new inventory in all the time and see if I can find another Alco PA B & A unit. Then I will have a set to pull the passenger cars when I get around to building a layout.

That ALCo looks to me like it's from Athearn, too.

They did have a RF16 A-B-A set but it was a little pricey. I have to go and buy another tote because the one I have is full as you will see below. Most of the trains in there are Athearn. The fiance knew I would be in there for about a half hour or more but I cut it down to 15 minutes. She was shocked when I came out and she said I thought you was just buying glue. I told her the trains were calling my name. LOL

Yes there are some classics in my collection so far. Trust me I'm far from being done with collecting. This is the largest my collection has ever been and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon, unless I run out of money before I get paid next week. I'm stopping in tomorrow and see what else I can bring home with me lol. The girlfriend hasn't noticed anything new sitting out but of course most of the stuff is athearn so she hasn't said anything lol.
