The recent arrival of AT&SF #3875 has created a lot of excitement and questions from the local railfans regarding how this locomotive ended up on the Leetown Division. Thanks to Charlie B. the mystery has been solved---"the PRR leased a bunch of the units from ATSF in 56/57 to handle an upswing in traffic from Sandusky to Columbus and points south. They remained in ATSF lettering and the PRR crews loved the oil fired locomotives''.Their outstanding performance hauling heavy coal trains was noted by the management of the Leetown Division who were looking to increase their roster of heavy duty locomotives especially with the increase of traffic from the GERN Bowyer Mine. The Leetown Division has #3875 on a long term lease with the option of purchasing this locomotive---for now she will keep her AT&SF lettering and number but that may change if/when the engine is purchased.
