Working on the one engine house tonight. I am adding beams to help make the building a little stronger but to also give it some realism. I'm going to glue two pieces together to make a beam for each one.

After almost gluing my fingers together a few times, I've managed to get four set of beams completed but only have put two in place. I am very pleased at how these have turned out and how much more detail it adds to the structure. I am going to cut probably 2-3 beams to give me 6-7 beams and this will also help support the roof since I am not gluing the roof down. I will then start to paint them in place.

Update on the engine house, two more beams added along with supports under the beams. I will also be adding additional supports between the beams to give it a bit more stability.

All the beams are in place now and drying for the night. Later today I will start with the other supports then start working on the base by adding track and a walkway for the employees to service the locomotives. Other details will be added as I go along. I'm hoping I don't have to make a trip to hobby lobby to get more .060" polystyrene. I mean if I "have" to I will, but this is the last picture for the night.

Final update with the roof beams aka roof trusses, I have all of the installed and now I am working on the inside of the of the building. I started to build the walkway that will be between the locomotives so the crews can work on the locomotives. This one will take me a little bit as this is another scratch build project but hey, I have all winter lol. Another good thing about adding the trusses was that it made the engine house more stable, so now it doesn't shift side to side like it did before.

Thank you Jim. I'm either going to order directly off their website or go to Hobby Lobby this weekend to get some more. I know my fiance wants to go there to get some craft stuff so I'm trying to get her out either tomorrow or Saturday.

evergreen is my go-to for plastic sheets as the closest hobby shop is a mere 3-hour drive also Tichy shipping is reasonable, and you can still get Grandt line products from San Juan modelers.

Was not aware that Hobby Lobby sold Evergreen. "Hobby Bench" here used to but I couldn't find any there the last time I stopped by. Actually, I could find very little train stuff there, mostly HO sets. If they had an N scale kit, it was spread out over half the shelf just to take up room. They're building a new Hobby Lobby a few miles from me, can't wait...

Don, Yes the Hobby Lobby that is about 45 minutes away from my house carries Evergreen. They do carry a couple HO Scale train sets and I have only ever seen one N Scale set.
Jim, Hobby Lobby here has a wide selection of Evergreen. They have the sheets, tubes, and a few others. I've checked local hobby shops and the only one that carries the Evergreen is in Altoona, Pa. The other two that are within 20-30 minutes of my house don't. Once everyone is feeling better, we are making a trip to Hobby Lobby. They just don't know it yet lol.

Caboose #56 doing a few laps around the track this morning. I still need to add the details to underneath the body and a couple other details. It will then be ready to roll behind some coal trains.

Looking good. Isn't it a nice feeling when the layout starts to come together.
