December 12, 2002.
My boss called me to work the New Castle Industrial Railroad in New Castle, Pa. A short line with lots of business in the area.  Interchanges with Norfolk Southern and CSX.
He had recently purchased this Super 7 that Conrail had upgraded to a B30-9 R

One of the spots was inside this building that cut scrap that was later moved to Ellwood Quality Steel, another on line customer.

This is going past the locomotive shop on the way to Ellwood

And here is a picture to place in your basement to scare the varmints away.

I got to run this locomotive several days over the next 3 years and it was always a pleasure. Dale sold it to Ohio Central and it is going to be scrapped due to some kind of agreement with the EPA.

Ah, man.... I have an M420 on the list of foreign power I'd like to get someday. It's either that or a wide cab GP40-2L (also CN with the zebra stripes). Next time I'm in Cape May County I'm going to have to poke my nose in on the Southern...

December, 1978.  This lonely Conrail SW7 is posed in front of Crucible Steel in Midland, Pa. The mills days of glory have come to an end and it was devastating to the whole area.  I tried to get a job there from the time I left school until 1974 when I finally met the right people and got hired.  I lasted 93 days and when I got the call back I told them politely no.  I never regretted that decision.
