HI TMo, I am now working on a track plan.
I thought figuring out how much benchwork I could fit into my space, and still allow myself & others room to move freely within it would be a better way to start. I will definitively post a trackplan once I have figured out one. Greg

Greg: Just to check, is this a new house?

Hi everyone, well my Magoun pier module is now moved into it's new layout room!
I placed it in the center of the room where I imagined it being used, three feet from the wall where it will connect to the reast of the future layout. It really seems to dominate the room, so I'm a bit worried that it's height at 51.6 inches might be to high for the room. Especially when I imagine the rest of the layout still being built all around it, at that level and even a bit higher in some sections. I will post a floor plan of the proposed benchwork that has to be built around the pier soon. Greg

Higher the better for me, Greg. No one likes to bend over or crouch to see something or work on it. It's nice that you have a section to build against, but that does mean that the construction dust is going to wreak havoc with that section. Magoun pier is certainly fabulous, however, and I'd hate having to cover it if it were mine.

Hi TMo, I also like layouts that are higher in level, I've enjoyed operating Magoun pier at it's current height of 51.6 inches from the floor for years now.
However after seeing it in it's new smaller room I think I'm going to lower it by a few inches. I plan on building my benchwork outside of the layout room, and then setting it in up the room after. So I don't think i'm going to create a lot of dust, but I'm not afraid of covering up the pier if I have to I've done it before. Greg |
