10/20/1979. I think the train is coming off the Galt subdivision, serving as CP’s main route into downtown Toronto. My guess is heading toward the Bathurst Street Yard. I took this from the Fort York park. My friend and I spent about 6 hours here taking pictures. It was the days of first generation diesels owning the Canadian railroads.

Charlie: The building by the loco is Tecumseth St. Tower.
The tracks at the front are the lines along the Lakeshore and lead to Hamilton, Niagara Falls (and New York), London, Windsor and Michigan.
The loco is headed to Bathurst St yard or beyond through Union Station. The track it is coming down is CP+CN (each separate) and leads to London via Galt or Vancouver via Northern Ontario. The CN line also splits going to Sarnia or Vancouver.
I came in along the CN line for 25 years on the GO train and watched most of those buildings disappear.

The speedway at the front became under-utilized in the 60s when CN built a bypass north of Toronto for freight traffic. The government of the day looked at this and saw that they could more than double the commuter capacity of the highway that paralleled it just by buying a lot of passenger cars and a few locomotives, rather than adding 50 miles of 4-lane highway.

In model railroading, there are between six and two hundred ways of performing a given task.
Most modellers can get two of them to work.
