One feature of the old Gauge that I liked was the preview of the first post when I scrolled over the title. This often gave me enough text that I could decide if I was interested in opening the thread.
As an old programmer, I recognize that a "simple" request may involve a lot of revised coding.

In model railroading, there are between six and two hundred ways of performing a given task.

I've added to my TODO list to investigate. There is a pretty active community which writes modifications to the base software. So someone may have done something like that already. I'll see what I can find.

That would be great, I always liked that feature as well.

I've just installed a mod that should help here. When your mouse is over the row that the thread is in, it will say "new posts" or "no new posts". If your mouse is over the thread topic, it will display the first couple hundred characters of the first post. I hope this helps!
