Are you planing on doing some videos of your new layout?
Yes, I will definately be doing videos when the layout is finished. I enjoy making videos almost as much as much as building layouts.
Thanks to all for the kind comments and encouragement.

Hi, yesterday I went along to my local exhibition, Railex North East and came away with some very nice palm trees and small exotic plants.

Mal,
The scenery looks excellent. What are you using for the thicker greener foliage?

Thanks Larry, I use Woodland Scenics 'Fine leaf foliage' for the thick foliage behind the 2 palm trees. I think this is one of their best products, I find it very versatile for anything from small bushes to large shrubs and dense foliage.

Mal,
Is this material already mounted on a backing material that resembles branches?

No, the foliage is attached to the branches which are colored dark brown and appear to be a natural product, not plastic. Simply break off branches or cut with scissors to achieve
the size and shape of the bush or shrub you want. Here's a pic to illustrate.

Hi, as I mentioned in an an earlier post, the left hand end of the layout is more or less complete as can be seen in the following pic.
I'll add more details later.
I've now made some progress with the Transflo terminal adding a small warehouse, the short spur in front of the warehouse usually has a tank car spotted, awaiting unloading, as can be seen
in these 2 pics. The warehouses in the background are temporary (salvaged from Palmetto Spur) and will be replaced later.

Thanks guys, your comments are much appreciated.
I'm pleased with the progress of the layout after a rather slow start. Unlike Palmetto Spur which I simply adapted from Lance Mindheim's layout and book,
Deerfield Beach has required a lot more research and thought.
I've ran out of styrene and Woodland Scenics so today I'll be visiting my local hobby shop to obtain more supplies.

Whilst working on the Transflo area this week I have been thinking about what to include in the middle section of the layout.
Instead of yet another 4 inch deep shoebox warehouse, I thought I would try a low relief structure that would allow trucks, containers etc to be placed in front.
I remembered building and painting a Walthers 'background building' for a (aborted) Miami layout. After a little repair work I placed the warehouse on the layout
and it looks OK. Not sure if I'll keep the Miami style colors?
