Embeding Links in your Signature
#1
How do you do it so it works?

on the old forum i was able to embed the link and make a title for the link so you could click on it and it would take you to that thread....

Im trying to do it for my signature so everyone can find this thread:

<!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="http://www.the-gauge.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=144">viewtopic.php?f=29&t=144</a><!-- l -->

Its my Index Thread that all my threads of modeling work i do will be posted in

I tried doing this for the signature and it showed up exactly how i typed it in, but it works in the thread i posted above. If you click on the thread above, i have posted a link to my CAT module in that thread. that is what im trying to do with my signature, but it seems to not be working..... Do you have to do something special? enable some code?

You can use the URL button in the edit signature page, or you can copy this text, changing the { } brackets to [ ].

{url=http://www....}Insert descriptive text here{/url}

where "http://www..." is the full url of the thread you want to reference.

Hmmmmm seems im still doing something wrong here

this is what im doing:

{url}http://www.the-gauge.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=139}{i}{u}Trucklover's Layout Index Thread{/i}{/u}{/url}

Ive replaced all the {} with [] when i was submitting in to the edit signature box, but it appeared exactly how i typed it in instead of linking.... Am i missing something or still doing something wrong? :oops:

Trucklover Wrote:{url}http://www.the-gauge.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=139}{i}{u}Trucklover's Layout Index Thread{/i}{/u}{/url}

Code:
[i][u][url=http://www.the-gauge.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=139]Trucklover's Layout Index Thread[/url][/u][/i]

That should do ya. I think all links in the signature are unlined regardless. Smile

Hi Path, i dont recognize you from our previous site, so Hi 2285_ 2285_

Thanks for the code but it still isnt working for some reason :oops: Wallbang lol

I copy and pasted the:

Code:
[i][u][url=http://www.the-gauge.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=139]Trucklover's Layout Index Thread[/url][/u][/i]

into my signature block and it still showed up exactly as it did above :o I even tried to delete some stuff from my signature because i thought it might be too long and maybe that was the reason, still didnt do anything lol :oops:

Make sure the option to disable BB Code is not checked on the Edit Signature page in your profile.

This is what I have in my signature box and it works fine.

Code:
[url=http://www.upmodelrailroadblog.com]UP Model Railroad Blog[/url]

Thanks Shaun, i tryed doing it exactly as you did, just replacing the url and txt and it still didnt work, im about to give up :oops:

I even deleted everything else in my signature and just tried to do it by itself, still no luck, deleted the italics i had in the code, tried with and without the {code}{/code} brackets. it just wont work for me :oops:. I also checked to see that BB code was NOT checked, it isnt

this is what mine looks like:

Code:
[url=http://www.the-gauge.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=139]Trucklover's Layout Index Thread[/url]

you don't need the code brackets. That will simply display the code itself.

you only want the URL brackets, and all of the options on the Edit Signature page unchecked.

Ha! 357

I only used the "code" brackets because I wanted the exact text without the bbcode getting processed. I never meant for you to use the "code" brackets!!!

Glad you figured it out. Big Grin
