Link to a video showing close-up the force with which a train going full speed literally desintegrates a car. Guess this is why no one should ever try to beat the train at a crossing.....

What was the woman's car doing on the tracks to begin with? It's like she tried to drive down the tracks and got stuck?

Thats been posted before.
There was a version posted a long time ago where you can here the sheriffs car radio playing a Gieco car insurance commercial.
Haven't seen that one in a long time. I think it was pulled.

Anyone have more details about this one? If there was enough time for a police response could they have contacted the local dispatcher to warn the train crew?
Or did the police just happen on the scene and not have time? I wonder if the latter might be the case considering the driver was escorted out of her car. I'm assuming she wouldn't have sat in it on the tracks for an extended time after calling 911 or help.
Any word on damage or injuries for the Amtrak train?

On my way home from NM last night I beat a train by about 2 minutes, and I was trying too, partially because my car was overheating in the 90+ degree temp of the desert, at 9PM!

2 minutes might not be that close unless you stall on thew tracks. You would probably wiser to stop of the road and let the engine idle until it cooled enough to shut it off and then wait for the engine to cool before continuing rather than risking getting hit by a train because you wanted to get going before the engine overheated more.

You're very lucky that the engine didn't die while you were on the tracks! When the car is acting sketchy (ie overheating, 'low oil' light or just plain dying), just park it at the
first safe place you find and don't try to beat the train. You could have died. We don't want that happening to you.
