Central Kansas Railway Geep in New Brighton MN

I just happened to notice this locomotive on a siding at the junction of the CN and the Minnesota Commercial RR. I'll see if I can get the story behind it. Most of the MN Commercial's motive power is painted this red color. Not sure if its a recent acquisition. loaner, etc. Never saw it before...... All kinds of interesting things appear at this junction. I should always carry a camera in the car!

Central Kansas was an OmniTrax operation up to 2001. One of their units is on the OmniTrax-owned Northern Ohio & Western in Tiffin, Ohio.

They're still up there, Larry. I wonder with the Northern Ohio & Western-painted engine got off to, though. I haven't seen in it four or five years now.

From the information I have.The 4497(exC&NW 4497/OmniTRAX (GWRX) 4497) broke a crankshaft in 2004..

My curiosity about this locomotive led me to search for a Twin Cities railfan forum. I hadn't thought to look for one before! Icon_lol

Any way, one of the members suspects the unit is heading toward the Horicon WI paint shops. Seemed like a likely explanation to me.
I wasn't familiar with this shop. Learned something!

Horicon is a Wisconsin & Southern facility. They also do contract work for other railroads including the Union Pacific heritage units.
