Google Bots?
#1
I have been checking the google search out with searches that should show this forum, but It absolutely is coming up blank. I have seen the Yahoo bot and google bot working the site as members. Is it possible buried somewhere that they are being kept out?
If stuff starts hitting google and Yahoo it will help old members that haven't found us pinpoint the new Gauge.
I already have recruited one new member, but there are a lot from the old site that haven't migrated.

It's there,

http://www.google.com/search?q=the-gauge.net

Doesn't seem to have been crawled lately. But a simple crawl won't instantly bring search results to the top of the page.

Or, do a search for a term you think should bring the site up, then scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "add a result" and enter the site's url.

Wish I could delete this whole post. the links work from here.

Perhaps it is hitting on the under construction page and stops there. Is there any way to point it to http://www.the-gauge.net/forum/ to by pass that page? Is there any reason for the page to still be up. Can't the http://www.the-gauge.net be set as a default for the forum site?
I'm really trying to be helpful I know nothing about this stuff, but I do know how to ask stupid questions Icon_lol
Sometimes it makes people think about something they never though of before.

I might be dumb, but I really am not stupid. Sometime while I made the last post to this thread the google search results found the right page and lost the "under maintenance" page. Boy am I good or what. Cheers

Yea, I've wondered the same thing and even created a "webmaster account" on Google so I could view the info on the site. Apparently, it works very slowly at grabbing a couple pages at a time so it doesn't burden the server. I'm guessing that it will then index the information which then has to spread out in the Google database. This site has only been up three days, so we'll probably need to wait a couple more for results to start displaying. Smile

For those that don't know, Google has this thing called BigTable which they use to store everything. It's a highly distributed database on a highly distributed filesystem. Basically, they have tons and tons of cheap servers with disk and everything is replicated numerous times throughout parts of the world. So if one server breaks, they can replace it and copies of the info will get recreated in other places. Hard for me to describe, but incredible nonetheless.

So, I'm just going to go with a little patience for awhile. Smile
