It appears that Standard Hobby Supply in NJ is no longer in business. They no longer advertise in MRR and their web site is no longer accessible. Does anyone know when this happened and why? Is it temporary or for good? Over the years, they've been good to me and their pricing was reasonable compared to a lot of other dealers. If they're gone for good, I for one will miss them.

I recall a thread about this a few months ago on the Model Railroader forums. I don't remember the reasoning, but "owner retired" is a likely scenario.

According to several threads on the Kalmbach Model Railroader forums, the shop closed in June 2010 due to owners retiring.

Now that you mention it, I noted there weren't as "many" advertising pages in this month's MRR, while looking for a B'mann GP-7 in UP colors...I guess that's the reason

Thanks for the info, I haven't been over to that forum in so long that I doubt that I would remember how to log on. I think I had to change my screen name and password when they changed the forum a few years ago and I can't remember what they were. Not to worry, I haven't posted there in some eight years anyway...
Anyway, that's interesting that a going business chooses to close rather than sell when the owner retires. Even if you just turn it over to the employees and take a monthly fee, that's a lot better than letting it go, but there may have been other circumstances that precluded that.

There was a hobby store in Mahwah or Ramsey called Highway Hobby House which I went to in the late 60's, early 70's. The prices there were higher than the ones advertised by Standard Hobby, and I knew they were the same outfit. I tried a few times to get the same pricing but they always insisted they were different. That store closed several months ago, what a coincidence! Oh, I always called the store the Highway Robbery House.
