Steve---your locomotive is a real beauty---what was the purpose of those square patches on the tender.Here's a shot of S-1-G #3513 while in service on Doctor Wayne's EG&E

I was always under the impression that they were just exactly that: patches.

That was how the PRR repaired them when they were up for sale...quick, cheep, and easy.

got a little more work done to the "ol L-1".     paint & weathering is finished, coal load is in, and the glazing is drying.
