Is that a transmission in the passenger floorpan? If so, you just passed the ultimate realism test!

One day, i went to the boneyard to find a replacement tranny for my car, and found one sitting on the passenger floorpan of a "convertible" (I don't know if it was actually a convertible, because it may have been a coupe with the roof torched off) The thing probably weighed a few hundred pounds, so we carried it back to the boneyard office on the HOOD of an old ford Torino. Why on the hood? Because the floorpans in the Torino were completely gone!

I know, I know!!! This post is waaaaaay overdue. But let me tell you about the Gold Lion series De Soto. Over the years, being in the auto parts business, I've met a lot of interesting people with cool cars. One of the people was the gentleman who owned the Gold Lion. He was a regular in the store I worked at in So.Cal. One day he asked me if I might be interested in buying a "unique old car." Well, some alarm bells went off, because being "unique" might mean that there isn't much left of it. I went to his house after I got off work, and we went back to his garage. After we entered, he turned around and closed the door behind me. He then turned on the lights. All I could see was something covered with a tarp. As he removed the tarp, carefully, I could see a beautiful, like new De Soto all decorated out with Gold Trim. The grill was gold, the "chrome" on the side was gold, and it had a large Gold Lion on the sides of the front fenders. All the trim, inside and out, was gold!! What a beautiful car!! He opened the hood, and showed me the big, (and I do mean big,) 413 Hemi engine. He asked me if I'd like to hear it run, so I said sure!! He started it up, and that was the sweetest sounding engine I have ever heard! A nice mellow rumble through the exhaust.

Chapter 2 of this story available on request!!
I only know what I know, and I don't understand very much of it, either.

Yup ----it's a tranny --- sideshift early Ford . Glad you recongized it as such. I was not sure it would be.

I agree Sarge -- just don't wait so long with part two. You get any pics of the Lion? 2285_

I also found a new use for the tool I made to make corrugated HO roofing , it makes great pleated upholstery for Junk yard cars. here is the back seat for the Merc.

I was asked about the "cotton" tufts poking thru the torn seat---- It's not cotton --- I made that from a tiny bit of a "cat tail" plant. It pulls apart in nice tiny tufts & is tannish which makes it look like dirty cotton --- painting cotton would be a bit tough as it would mess it up. I found a whole bundle of cattails about 1/4 inch in diameter at a 99 cent store -- when I bought them I had NO IDEA what I could do with them, it just seemed like a good idea at the time!

I got the front seat built, had to scratch it as the model had custom buckets which won't do. I also found a TINY spring for the hood hinges . 2285_

One more seat & the teenie weenie spring. I'll bet a lot of you will think of uses for one like this, they are inside the little jewelry clasp. I am sure Michaels woud sell them.

And considering all the DeSoto talk, I came across this picture. Is this what you were talking about?
