What is your favorite activity in this hobby?

One option that was not available that I really love. Running Trains. Not operation. Operation is cool, interesting, fun, gives a layout a purpose... but sometimes I just want to watch trains go roundy-round. Actually, it is one of my favorite things to do, it relaxes me and that, in itself, gives a layout a purpose.

I side with Don on this Cheers , but to me its more than just scenery and structure building its building the whole illusion of a world that I would rather see.so if there was a illusion category for that it would be my choice.

Mine are scenery and locomotive/rolling stock building/detailing.
I have to admit that structures to me are part of the scenery, but to say it more generally, I enjoy the 'creative & crafts' part of the hobby. This is closely followed by operations and just sitting back watching trains run through the scenery with a cold beer in my hand :-)

I almost hate to say it...but I like the detailing and technology of the engines and rolling stock. I've always appreciated a well detailed model, and train engines (of any era) are amazingly detailed for Nscale and even better in the larger scales. I really like things to look real. And the technology is a plus for me. DCC opens up a new world of operations and possibilities. I do admit, I am getting to be more of a fan of building structures and kitbashing, although I won't say I'm good at either yet...but I still like all the technology of this hobby as my first choice.
