So...

I bought a Walthers structure with intentions to use it as a foreground warehouse. I then put it in place and decided it was too short. So i figured I would raise the structure up a little bit with a loading dock.

I then turned the walls to to face the edge of the layout and realized...they suck. No interior detailing big ugly ejector marks etc. etc. So then I thought I could glue some corrugated metal to the inside...but then the walls are 2 feet wide.

Well then I found some great photos of the interior of some different sawmills and decided that I guess I will be scratchbuilding this structure. So I grabbed my small collection of campbells siding and decided I will need to make a trip to the LHS to pick up some scale lumber.

Now you can follow me attempt to scratchbuild the Ponderosa Moulding company warehouse.

It was recently was painted blue and had just been bare metal before. I will be modeling it as it was in the mid 60's

For a warehouse its an interesting looking structure with the roof angles and the covered bay over the track. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it!

Here is the "look" I would like to obtain on the interior of the building. Being as this will only be a partial structure and be pretty prominent I think it will be neat to include all the interior trusses and what not.

The indside of the warehouse will mostly just stacked lumber ready to be loaded into railcars. I will proabbly have a fork lift with a load of lumber parked in theforground and some employees "looking busy" standing around.

Any guesses on how far apart I should put the horizontal runners that support the metal siding? I was thinking of every 2 feet being as the metal usually is in two foot increments and would allow for a sturdy backing for the siding. Now to make a jig for the walls....

Loking at the interior photo, I would guess 2 feet apart on the horizontal members is about right. That is actually much closer together than metal buildings I have worked in. The spacing was closer to four feet apart horizontally.

Anyway, nice structure to model. Now, let's see some progress!

Well I will be buying up all the HO scale 2X4 from NESL and maybe some sheet styrene....hmmmm
Still think I am going to have to make some sort of jig.

Maybe I will have time this eveing to work up so drawings...

I have been working on the drawings for this structure and I am pretty happy with what I have come up with so far. Although it will not be a huge building I think the fully detailed interior will really catch people's eyes.

As you can see all the drawings are done...
I went to the LHS and was thouroughly dissapointed :x
All they had was one package of 2x4

So I guess I will be spending my evening order stripwood...what fun

Very, VERY nice drawings. Looks like a good candidate for a scratchbuild, and the extra work to model the interior bracing shouldn't be too hard...perhaps tedious is all. Looking forward to the build!
