The Tyco/Bachmann/AHM/Rivarossi 40' Quad hoppers
#16
I checked my copy of COAL CARS the first 300 years, and found that they fallow the ARA's committee on standard car construction of 1926. Most were built by Standard steel, but the cars could be built by any shop that purchased the plans. The book lists a few railroads that had them, there could be others.
B&O had 2,000 that they called there W-s class #rd 432,000-433.999 3,000 W-2-A #rd 434,000-434,999 and 532,000-533,999 2,000 W-2-B class 430,000-431,999 The 2-A's and 2-B's had a modified underframe that did not change there external look. The 2-B's lasted well into the 1960's
Milwaukee had 500 built in 1928 #rd 370,000 , 370,501-370,551 and 370,552 to 370,999.
MP had 55,000-55,499 and 55,500-56,499 built in 5/30
MKT had 50 built in 8/29 #rd 40,001-40,050
C&O classed there's H7-10 H7-11 and H7-12 all built around 1928 they were #rd 68,000-69,576 and 71,500-72,999
The B&M had a group stenciled "for exclusive use on home lines". They were built in 1930. the only car they show is # 8,499. I don't know how many they had.
The last owner the book shows is the ERIE. Witch had 800 of them #rd 39,000-39,799. all built 7/30
It is possible that many of these cars found there way to Conrail but the book only covers the first 300 years Confusedhock: and does not cover PC or CR.
My other car is a locomotive, ARHS restoration crew
