Looking for detail parts.
#1
Hi guys,

I'm looking for a set of large headlamps to replace the dual headlamps on my SW9 switcher. I like the large single headlamps and would like to model them on my locos. I've come across some promising leads on the Detail Associates and Miniatures by Eric sites, however would appreciate some help in buying the "right parts". If successful I'd also make the same changes to my GP7 as well and add the single headlamps to it as well.

Thanks in advance as always! Cheers

Not being overly familiar with diesels, I would suggest that unless you are modelling a specific road or unit, you can modify with whatever looks right. Lots of roads had their own practices, and there was variation within this as well.

Sorry I am not more help...

Thanks Andrew,

Your reply is helpful in a sobering kind of way.

As for modeling a specific road unit, well sort of...

Specifically, I'm looking to make this change to the head lamp and number board combo.

I can find the headlamp enclosure however there are a few different sizes and I'd like to get the right one. Maybe I'm just over thinking this too...I dunno.

Truth be told, I probably won't modifiy the loco anytime soon. However I like to plan ahead of time, even if that means I don't start it until next year.

Thanks again.

One other thought occurred to me - depending on who the manufacturer of your SW-unit is - and whether they offered different variants - you might be able to get the required parts from them.

One caveat - if it is Proto, you won't be able to. I asked for parts (even willing to pay) and they said no. This was a while ago, so policy may have changed.

Details West HL-133 is what I use for my WP Road units, and I know CN used them as well. It appears to be the same as on that SW you posted the photo of.
